Episode 17: Two games, many misses and a president who flunked in math
Monday Apr 25, 2011
Monday Apr 25, 2011
This week on La Magicast, Alex and Greg - following a hiatus last week - supplement their own lack of knowledge by bringing in Brit Romanista James (@ilroadrunner on Twitter). James is a veritable fountain of knowledge and helped us regulars sound like we have a clue. Cheers James! We hit a TON of topics ... ok, maybe not a ton of topics but we talked a ton about the topics we did go over. What were those topics you ask? The Inter Coppa Italia match. The Chievo match. Mirko's misses. Sulky players and why they need to go (or do they?!). In addition to those game elements we talked a plenty about off the pitch moments such as the news about the Sensi's and their management - or lack thereof - some personnel decisions - more coaching carousel and much more! As always we ended our show with questions from Twitter, Facebook and email - where there was one question in particular that was just too good for words! Ok - it wasn't that good but I sent it in so either send in your own or deal with it! :) Forza Roma! - The La Magicast crew

Episode 16: Palermo Condemns Champions' League Hopes: What Now?
Sunday Apr 17, 2011
Sunday Apr 17, 2011
Julian takes the reigns of the show as Greg and Alex are out for this episode. Lorenzo of the Palermo Offside and Daniela fill in for the two, as we discuss the Palermo game, preview Chievo and Inter in the Coppa Italia, and figure out where Roma goes from here. The spectrum of this pod is a bit broader than usual. Roma of course remain a focal point, but Lorenzo's presence allowed us to discuss a wide range of topics, including:
- Mirko Vucinic, big game player? Daniela has something to say about that...
- The referee's poor performance in the Palermo match
- Loria- our best defender?!
- Should we go for Chievo's Stefano Sorrentino in the summer? Julian discusses two possible pitfalls.
- Buffon and Wikipedia
- The importance of great fullbacks, as Lorenzo can describe.
- Ranocchia, Inter, and Juventus: what Roma should avoid this summer
- The need for youth for the rest of the season.
- Chievo before Easter, a match made in hell?
- And finally, Sampdoria and Serie B: a match made in heaven- at least for us!

Episode 15: Natale for Roma: Does DDR Listen to Dido?
Sunday Apr 10, 2011
Sunday Apr 10, 2011
For this round of La Magicast, Julian, Alex, and Greg welcome well-known Romanista Sterling to the show. Much is discussed in this episode, beginning with the win over Udinese. Francesco Totti: is he irreplaceable in the best way possible? After a fantastic win, Roma dare to dream again and we could hardly contain our excitement. We then consider the possibility that Taddei's crappiness might actually help the team! Then we move onto Philippe Mexes. After his comments about moving to Milan, we spend a lot of time debating just how much of a role he had to play in this seemingly inevitable transfer. Was this a failure of the higher-ups at Roma or something that Mexes really wanted all along? Finally we end the show with Twitter questions, questions from our new Facebook page, and a bit of fantacalcio brought to us by Sterling.

Episode 14: the Juventus Loss, Mexes' Injury, and Fantacalcio With Palermo
Tuesday Apr 05, 2011
Tuesday Apr 05, 2011
Julian and Alex take the show on with two parts. The first is a review of the Juventus loss with Aaron Giambattista, blogger for the Juventus Offside and great friend of the show. The three spend much time discussing the game, including the tactical superiority of Juventus's wide players as well as the crucial role that Marco Storari had in the tie. Can Vincenzo Montella really be blamed for the loss here? For the second half, Greg returns as usual as the new trio take on the Philipe Mexes issue. Will his injury make him more likely to stay or to leave, with Milan rumored to have set their sights on a different fullback? Udinese, which Roma play on Saturday is previewed as well. Finally as ever the show is ended with Twitter and email questions. This show is a bit longer than usual, as the four of us had a fantastic time recorded and tried to leave most of it in. Much of it is unedited and, we hope, quite enjoyable! LaMagicast can now be found on Facebook as well! Like the page for the latest on La Magicast and to keep in touch with the pod via Facebook. Finally, Aaron was fantastic on the show and we'd like to link a few of his calcio-related endeavors. He blogs for the Juventus Offside, which can be found here. He also hosts a Juventus podcast called "It Ain't Over Till the Old Lady Sings", which can be found here.

Episode 13: Juventus Preview and Galatico-Roma?
Sunday Mar 27, 2011
Sunday Mar 27, 2011
This time on LaMagicast, Julian welcomes Greg back from his hiatus as well as special guest, Oscar of Blogistuta fame (The link to his blog can be found here). Oscar is a well-known and highly respected Romanisti who joined the crew to discuss quite a bit on this special international break episode. Without any game to preview, instead a Juventus preview is discussed: will the game be won down the middle, Alberto Aquilani vs Daniele De Rossi style, or down the flanks, where Milos Krasic and Mirko Vucinic will try to punish weak fullbacks? Moving along, a myriad of transfer rumors have been endlessly mentioned now that DiBenedetto looks near-certain to come on-board. We discuss the possibility of Gianluigi Buffon joining and other goalkeeping alternatives, as well as the rumored Lukas Podolski. Carlo Ancelotti's latest statement that he would like to stay at Chelsea is dissected as well: is this merely a bluff or an effort to remain in England whole-heartedly? Finally, we wrap up as we do every show: Twitter questions. There were some fantastic ones this time, ranging to the possibility of Roma's transfer policy going down the route of the Galactico-era Real Madrid team as well as a potential conspiracy involving our exit from the Champions' League at Shakhtar's hands. Also, Mexes' hair: is there a correlation between length and his form? If anyone has yet to see the immensely catchy Podolski song video, check it out here!

Welcome back to another round of LaMagicast! Julian and Alex are joined by special guest James today (Stonegold546 for you Twitter folk) to discuss the latest happenings at AS Roma. The Fiorentina game is dissected, with James providing a tactical analysis of both sides as Julian and Alex ponder if this is the end of Roma's Champions' League hopes. Then the show turns to a statistical breakdown of the awful defense and great offense that La Magica have demonstrated thus far. The system or player form- who is to blame? The potential acquisitions of Franco Baldini and Walter Sabatini are weighed before the talk turn to Jeremy Menez's latest outburst. Alex draws the end of the show in the discussion of Roma's new website (asroma.it): "We can forget about the Champions' League, we have an English website!" Julian and Alex would like to truly thank James for coming on this show. The audio is a bit spotty in parts due to the nature of Skype-ing across three continents (America, Europe, and Africa!), but stick in there, this one is worth the listen!

Welcome back to a super busy episode of La Magicast! Greg, Julian, and Alex discuss the disappointing 4-3 loss against Genoa, Claudio Ranieri's subsequent departure, and Vincenzo Montella's appointment as new first team coach. The Bologna game is previewed as well. The Genoa game and Ranieri's resignation are examined. What exactly is the problem at Roma? Also examined: the best moments under Claudio, and what each of the guys would grade him from 1-10. In this episode, the guys discuss just how successful Montella could be. Will he be afraid to drop his friends (read: Totti)? Can he lead Roma to a fourth place finish? What kind of formation does he like to play? Could be be given a longer contract in the summer? All of that and much more is covered. Listen and join in! Remember to contact LaMagicast with any questions or comments about Roma or any of the guys on Twitter (@lamagicast), Gmail (LaMagicast) or in the comments section of this post.

Welcome back for another round of La Magicast! This week Julian is joined by guest host Richard Chambers, a Romanisti who writes articles for BackPageFootball (Check below for links to some of his stuff- they're all quite stellar!). Recorded over the weekend, this episode reviews the Napoli loss at home as well as previewing the Shakhtar game. Unfortunately, the Champions' League preview is a bit dated, but it's interesting to see just how accurate we were... A couple of Richard's articles, all of which can be found here.
